SM: Is that sad to a degree?
Christy Carlson Romano: I’ve done it enough. I had an accelerated childhood, only because I hung out with adults. I wasn’t introduced to drugs or sex until really late. I was always working. So I was seeing the world through an adult pair of eyes. When you’re eight years old and they’re like “Be on time. Do the step. It’s live theater, don’t mess up!” that really changes your whole perspective on how the world works. That’s why I’ve always been an overachiever. And I think that at 22 you have to watch out for burning out.

SM: How did it feel to be Emmy nominated?
Christy Carlson Romano: You know something: Other things take precedence over those huge things for me and looking back, I really wish that I would have cherished those moments more. I’ve actually overlooked a lot of my accomplishments and I regret that. From now on will be taking much more notice of the positive things in my life. I think that’s what being an actor is about—being a student of human emotion.
