Fashion Trends that should never come back, fashion advice, fashion tips

Twelve years ago I longed to have Cher’s high-tech closet (from Clueless of course, NOT the singer), and every outfit that came along with it. But looking back, some of those “totally cool” ensembles were just plain awful. So in an ode to their hideousness, here are a few trends you most likely sported growing up … that should stay in the past.

1. Mini Hair Claws.
If you’re like me, you twisted up your hair into perfect little rows, and adorned each with it’s own miniature claw. You looked really special if you alternated colors. And by special, I mean like an extra on Star Trek.

2. Sponge Platform flip-flops.
Little people unite! I no longer felt like the token “short friend” with these ones. But let’s be honest, I wasn’t fooling anyone. Now they work great as life preservers and bookends.

3. Bedazzled Jeans.
Around ‘98 the more sparkle you could put on your jeans, the better. I think Britney Spears started the trend. Enough said.

4. MC Hammer Pants.
Can’t touch this. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist). I used to have a poster in my room that said “Hammer Time” and the neon pants to match. Thoughts?

5. The stripper shoe.
Call them platforms, call them shoes of the night—whatever you call them, they’re ugly. When I was 16, I thought they made me look sexy and grown up. But then again I also thought Bob Saget was an ideal father figure.
