Non Trend: Above the knee
Virginia also observed a non trend: showing anything above the knee for women is considered taboo, although revealing your breasts is completely normal.

Florence, Italy
Trend: Colored Jeans (for men!)
Although “metro” fashion is gaining popularity in the U.S., Italians take it to a whole new level. In Italy, you can see many men walking the street in bright red and yellow jeans, something you’d rarely witness in America, says resident Cynthia Rivas, 20.

Durban, South Africa
Non Trend: Shorts
In Durban the women do not wear shorts. In this diverse city by the sea, many international trends are incorporated—except shorts. “They are seen as scandalous, but instead many girls wear short skirts or pants,” says Marisa Lindsay, 24.

London, England
Trend: Wellies

“The thing that is selling out everywhere is wellies [rain boots],” says local Alison Saki, 33. The galosh-spree makes sense considering the BBC reported that “the summer of 2007 will go on record as a washout.”

Non Trend: Caps
Marion Cronin, 32, another London local says “We don’t wear baseball caps. Ever. Probably not even when playing baseball (or ‘rounders’ as we like to call it to wind Americans up).” Maybe that’s why she can “spot an American tourist at 100 yards.”
