Here are some rules of thumb:
• Don’t overdo the rings. If married, wear your wedding rings and one other ring, tops. Try to save rings with large stones for special occasions.
• Necklaces are fun, but not when they are overlong, overly bulky, and can get caught in your belt or desk drawers. When in doubt, go for a test run and try bending over and reaching into drawers while wearing the necklace. If it gets caught in the closet doors or drawers, don’t wear it to work.
• Bracelets are timeless, but noisy ones are just plain inappropriate. Try to wear one thick one in a bold color instead of an armful of jangly ones. There is nothing quite as annoying as shaking hands with someone who provides their own sound effects. If you favor chains or gold, opt for an unusual pattern or color gradation.
• Try not to wear earrings that overpower your face, but rather a pair that enhances your features and attracts light to your face. If in doubt, save the really blingy stuff for your time off.
• Just for fun, sometimes accessories can be completely unexpected, like Swarovski crystal bra straps from Margarita Couture, which can take your LBD from typical to sensational.
