Father’s Day Facts: Did you know?

There are approximately 66.3 million fathers in the United States.

There are approximately 98,000 “stay-at-home” dads.

The idea for Father's Day came from Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd who was so proud of her own father, a Civil War veteran, that she thought there should be a special day in his honor.

In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday of June as Father's Day.

A father Emperor penguin withstands the Antarctic cold for 60 days or more to protect his egg, which he keeps on his feet, covered with a feathered flap. During this entire time he doesn't eat a thing. Most father penguins lose about 25 pounds while they wait for their babies to hatch.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!
