I used to make fun of those people that always had those “stupid” smiles on their faces no matter what. I used to think it must be true that “ignorance is bliss” because there’s no way they could be conscious of reality and act like life is sweet—the reality actually is life sucks…
But the joke was on me. The “ignorant” people who viewed life as beautiful were actually living life, while I was the one drained, exhausted and unhappy. Tired of being tired, I humbled myself and started to ask the happy folk how they do it. How could you see the good in your boss getting credit for your work and getting a parking ticket on the same day, for instance?
Fortunately, happy folk like to share and Lisa Nichols, one of the teachers in The Secret —a highly-acclaimed book and DVD that delves into the power of thought—is one of them.
SM: Everyone has heard of positive thinking and seeing the glass half full—that it’s all about your perception. How much power do our thoughts really have?
Lisa Nichols: Our thoughts are what form our words and words are what form our reality. When we use empowering, possibility-based language, we begin to live inside that realm and raise our consciousness. When we use scarce-based conversation, we think and operate on that level and our lives look like there’s never enough. If your life is not going the way you want it, don’t change your life, change the conversation going on in your head. Change the language that you’re using and your life must follow.
SM: So simply changing your conversation about life can guarantee it going the way you want it to go? How does that work?
Lisa Nichols: If my thoughts are in alignment with my words and my words are in alignment with my actions, then it has to manifest. It’s not just wishing, it’s being in action. The things people are most unhappy about are what they are least in action about. We can talk about going to the gym for six months, but if we’re not in action, then we’re still going to have the same wonderful love handles we had last summer.
