Ready your body and mind.
Before you begin, take a few deep breaths and clear your mind of distractions. Relax your neck and shoulders. Apply a small amount of oil or lotion to the palm of your hand and then rub your hands together briskly.
HAND MASSAGE
- Take the hand you are massaging gently in both of your own. With a gliding movement spread the lotion across the entire hand, front and back.
- Still holding the hand, use your thumbs to trace gentle, upward circles over the wrist and between the bones of the hand. Bring your thumbs together and slide your hands out to the sides of the hand in a “spreading” movement.
- Take the thumb between your own thumb and index finger. Working from the knuckle out to the fingertip, massage the thumb gently between your own with small circular movements. Repeat this motion on each finger. Be careful not to squeeze the joints.
- Turn the hand over and use your thumbs to massage the palm, using small circular movements. Holding the recipients hand in one of your own, curl your other hand into a loose fist and massage the palm with your knuckles.
- Gently stroke the hand, front and back. Repeat on the other hand.
