Step 3 - Search online and in-print.
A daily search of the internet is not your only means of finding job prospects. Many smaller companies cannot afford to advertise on the popular job bank websites, so they still rely on the old-fashioned means of recruitment—the newspaper. Pick up a copy of your local newspaper and also consider purchasing copies of neighboring cities or towns’ papers. If you are willing to commute a little longer each day, you may just find your dream job a few towns away.
Step 4 - Hit the pavement.
Cold calling is still an acceptable and effective means of uncovering potential positions. Many companies keep resumes and applications on file for future positions and review them first in hopes of discovering hidden talent. Research, target and make contact with prospective companies by visiting their establishments in person. Don’t forget to be polite and introduce yourself to the receptionist, as her first impression of you may be the determining factor that gets you in the door.
