six steps to finding the right job, finding a new job

Searching for and securing a good job takes time and planning. Whether you’re presently unemployed or looking for a new position, you’ll multiply your efforts by incorporating and applying these six steps into your job search action plan:

Six Steps to Finding a New Job

Step 1 - Spread the word.
Finding yourself unexpectedly unemployed can be a big blow to your ego. Consequently, while you may not feel like announcing your unemployed status to the world, there are good reasons to tell your friends and acquaintances. Many unemployed workers find their perfect job through word-of-mouth, referrals and networking. Furthermore, many companies will more seriously consider an applicant if he or she is referred by a reputable source.

Step 2 - Revamp your resume.
If you lack good writing skills, consider having your resume prepared by a professional writer. Your resume is a reflection of you and your skills, so it’s imperative that it leaves a favorable impression. Make sure your resume is clean and error-free. Don’t fold or roll it. Carry it in a file folder or big envelope to ensure it stays in good condition.

Step 3 - Search online and in-print.
A daily search of the internet is not your only means of finding job prospects. Many smaller companies cannot afford to advertise on the popular job bank websites, so they still rely on the old-fashioned means of recruitment—the newspaper. Pick up a copy of your local newspaper and also consider purchasing copies of neighboring cities or towns’ papers. If you are willing to commute a little longer each day, you may just find your dream job a few towns away.
