Saving for a rainy day.

•    “I have a 401(k) at work and put money into a personal savings account each paycheck. I do it just like I would pay a bill—except I pay myself.”

•    “Never let your bank charge you for an overdraft fee. Every time I’ve gotten one, all it takes is a call to the bank (and maybe a few tears) and they take away the fee.”

•    “Get one of those DIY computer tax programs. You don’t have to pay exorbitant amounts for an accountant and it will last you more than just one year. ”

•    “I put any tax rebates straight into my savings account and pretend the money never existed!”

•    “Start an IRA or a Roth IRA when you’re young—as opposed to opening one ten years before you retire. You will be putting in three times less and making three times more!”
