SM: What’s the party scene like on campus?
Leah: It really depends what you want to make it. There’s a [Greek] presence on campus, but it’s not overwhelming. I think about 15 percent of the student body is active in Greek life. I have tons of friends who are not members of Greek organizations and who definitely like to go out and party every weekend. In the city there are dozens of clubs you can go to, music venues, a fraternity is throwing a party every weekend, sororities are often throwing parties [too]. There’s always something to do.
SM: Are the university’s athletic events popular?
Leah: Basketball events are really well-attended. We don’t have a football team, but our student body is very, very supportive of our basketball team. Last year we made it to the playoffs and that was really cool. We had to play Duke and got slaughtered. That was really sad.
SM: Any advice for students considering applying to GW?
Leah: I think that there’s a certain kind of person that goes to GW. If you are active and energetic and really interested in politics, journalism or international affairs you would do very, very well here. I love this university and…I would not transfer for anything. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who’s interested in politics to apply because this university will give you an incredible experience that you cannot get anywhere else.
