With over 50,000 graduate and undergraduate students cruising around the 350-acre campus, The University of Texas at Austin is one of the nation’s largest schools. Savvy Miss spoke with recent Texas graduate Julie to find out what the school is really like.
SM: Why did you choose to attend The University of Texas at Austin or “Texas” as students call it?
Julie: I loved how it was a big school in a thriving city with a lot to offer and that it had Greek Life, school pride and, oh yeah, good academics.
SM: What are class sizes like?
Julie: As a freshman, general classes have like 300-400 students. But once you hit your upper division courses which are your junior and senior level classes, they start getting smaller—like 30-40 people a class.
SM: With so many in a class, are the professors able to give students enough attention? What are the professors like in general?
Julie: They are really receptive and positive but you do have to be proactive. You just can’t sit back and think they’ll let you know how you’re doing. If you’re failing a class, they’ll let you fail the class. But if you go talk to them, it’s a different story. You should go in person to do anything.
