Stay safe.
Never get under the car while it is supported by the jack!
Remove the wheel.
Completely remove the lug nuts around the wheel and put them to the side where they won’t roll away. Grab the flat tire and pull it straight off the wheel studs.
Replace the flat tire with the spare.
Pick up the spare tire and place it directly on the wheel studs. (Remember to check the air pressure on the spare tire once a month to make sure it’s always ready to use.)
Secure the spare.
Screw the lug nuts back on—they should screw on easily. Then, use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts a bit.
Double check your work.
Now lower the jack and tighten the lug nuts again.
Let the car hit the pavement.
Lastly, lower the jack until the tire touches the ground and use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts as much as possible.
Clean up.
Grab your jack, flat tire and lug wrench, and place them in your car. Finally, you are done!
Drive to Safety.
Depending on the type of spare tire you have put on, use your best judgment to decide your next stop, which should usually be the nearest service station.
To help lessen your chances of an unexpected flat tire, continually check your tire’s air pressure and condition.
