If you're like me, you have jewelry boxes full of pieces you never even touch. So why not revamp your jewelry and turn it into something you'll actually wear? When a Savvy Miss member asked the following question, we turned to jewelry entrepreneur and author Lindsay Cain for her expert opinion.
My boyfriend gave me a gorgeous pair of drop earrings. But the problem is that I don’t have pierced ears! Is there a way that I can still use the earrings, without wearing them on my ears? And how can I do it myself?
There are two options that I think fit this dilemma. One involves keeping one of the earrings intact as it is and adding a bail (a loop or ring to thread a chain through) to it so that it can be worn on a simple gold or silver chain, or a leather cord, ribbon, etc.
Using a basic thin head pin—available at any craft store or bead shop—create a wrapped loop (twist the pin into a loop with pliers, and then wrap the ends of the wire so they’re smooth) around the earring so it can be worn as a charm. With that in mind, the other earring could be worn the same way dangling off the clasp of a bracelet. This way, you can still enjoy the sentimentality of your boyfriend’s selection; who cares whether they’re on your ears or your wrists!
