dating, blind date, stood up

You’ve spent all week surfing the web for fun conversation topics and sexy outfit ideas. You even made it to the gym. Why? You finally snagged a date with him, the one you’ve been daydreaming about ever since you locked eyes at your morning latte stop.

As Saturday night rolls around, you're feeling confident, stylish and super sexy. You could say you're riding on a dating high, which is why you haven't prepared for what may come next: The Bermuda Triangle of Dating, that bizarre phenomenon that occurs when your date disappears for no apparent reason. Maybe he stands you up. Maybe you get midway through the date before he excuses himself to the bathroom and never returns. Maybe you have what you consider the most fantastic first date ever and then he just never calls again.

Regardless of which dating scenario, don't despair. This is just part of the single gal’s gamble and while it’s a less than ideal situation, you have to prepare yourself. The following are some dating survival tactics should you find yourself an unwitting victim of the Bermuda Triangle of Dating.

He stands you up.
You’ve been set up on a blind date and you’re sitting at a restaurant, red rose on the table so that he can recognize you. Only he never shows. Did he see you and make a mad dash for the exit? Possibly. Did he get hit by a car? Probably not.

If for some reason you get stood up before your date, i.e. he doesn't show up at all, or he calls/text messages/e-mails with a flaky cancellation, consider yourself lucky. At least this dating loser didn't waste too much of your time by taking you out and then ditching you!

Part of a single gal's contingency plan should be that if for some reason she gets stood up, her girlfriends are there to break the fall. Which is why you should always designate a backup, a trusted gal pal who can whip up a good time on a moment’s notice. The moment you get stood up by your date, call your Backup Girl.
