Here at Savvy Miss we like to believe in the mantra, “Hey, it could be worse.” So if you’re feeling glum because this Valentine’s Day isn’t going to turn out exactly as planned, these readers’ stories might just make you feel better about your situation (and show that maybe that this holiday isn’t all it’s cracked up to be).
Devil Meets Valentine’s DayI had this heinous boss - she might be best summed up as an Anna Wintour, just void of all talent. Last year, I begged her not to send me to a Vegas trade show on Valentine's Day so I could finally spend it with my boyfriend. All seemed perfect until a blizzard hit NYC, thus keeping my boss' boyfriend stuck in the Big Apple and away from the immaculate dinner she had planned for the evening. Even though he apologized with a massive floral display that towered nearly four feet tall, it wasn't enough. If she couldn't spend V-Day with her significant other, well, no one else could, including me. So, I toiled at work until she decided to leave work at 8pm, and when I finally got back home two hours later (L.A. traffic sucks, especially when everyone's out for Valentine's day) my boyfriend and I settled for some classy Chipotle burritos while I hurriedly packed for my 6am flight to Vegas the next morning. – Jacqueline, 23
V-Day Break UpI had just started dating this really cute, great guy and couldn’t wait to see what he had planned for us on Valentine’s Day. Then on the eve of the big day, a mere 15 minutes before the clock struck 12 and it was officially “V-Day,” he broke up with me. Instead of going on a romantic date, I sat at home and caught up on some work between sob sessions as Norah Jones played softly in the background. – Allison, 27
