I'd like to leave it like it is so I don't end up confusing people more than I have to. Adding a typical American last name to my exotic first name is enough to move my terror alert to red. I will do Homeland Security a favor and keep it.

I have no problem changing my name to my husband's last name when I get married. Women should because it’s a symbol of officially joining the family.

I knew before I got married that I wanted to keep my maiden name.  My father has always been an influential figure in my life. Having my husband's name also meant a lot to me, so I decided to hyphenate it.

Would you ask a guy if he'd change his name? I don't understand this concept. Why is my heritage less valid than a man's? And, by the way, I give birth and that's a lot of work, so the kids get my name too.
—Alison, 34

Stupid tradition. I do not plan on doing it, nor would I want my wife to do it (if I were a man or a lesbian). It's like taking away a piece of your identity... plus it's a big f***ing hassel.

He says…

Yes. We’re getting married and that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

I think it’s very important for women to take the man’s name. It symbolizes a full commitment. Legacy is important to men.
