Sara has seen this to work in her buddy marriage: “While it doesn’t necessarily mirror the type of relationship we have, we both take great pleasure in reenacting scenes from Secretary … it’s quite baffling how I don’t mind taking a more submissive role in bed, at times, but it definitely feels good!”

And that’s what makes buddy couples still seem better than traditional marriages, despite the sex challenge. With better communication and a profound connection, buddy couples are in a good position to overcome the sexual obstacles—they are willing to explore what it is each other wants and, as a result, can possibly create a whole new sexual landscape, just like they’ve done with marriage.
