You know those domesticated people who have an ingenious fix for every little household problem? Normally their know-it-all attitude can be a little annoying, until they save our carpet from a red-wine stain.

We’ll probably never be able to top these natural homemakers, but we can try. To help, we’ve rounded up little-known tricks for every room in the house.

Tips for the Kitchen.
“Sprinkle a few drops of lemon or lime juice on things like apples or avocados to keep them from turning brown. And to make an avocado ripen quicker, stick it in a brown paper bag.” –Lisa Lamb
“If you’re in a hurry for ice cubes, leave three or four frozen ones in the tray and fill the rest with cold water. They’ll freeze in half the time.” From:

“White vinegar gets all water stains and lime build-up off showers, kitchen sinks, spotted dishes and cleans the hard water out of the coffee pot and iron. After [washing] run all items with clean water.” –Nicole Miller

“If you put a little comet in a dirty pan with a little water and bring it to a boil, it will loosen everything up so it's easier to wash ... not ok with teflon though.” –Catie Royal

Tips for the Living Room.
To remove candle wax from carpet: “First, remove as much of the wax as you can by hand after it has dried. Then place a brown paper bag [or paper towel] over the wax in the area you want to clean and go over it with a warm iron [on the steam setting]. Keep the iron moving, and move the paper often. The heat from the iron melts the wax and the brown paper wicks the wax out of the carpet. Repeat until it is gone. I have seen red wax completely removed from very light colored carpet this way.” From:
