To kids, the holidays are all about presents. To adults, they’re all about parties. Now, my grandmother wasn’t the type to sew Halloween costumes, tend to a rose-filled garden or bake anything that didn’t come home from the store frozen. She wasn’t considered much of a home-maker or the most involved parent at PTA meetings either. But every December, for one night, my grandmother became the envy of all of her neighbors as the hostess with the most-ess during her annual holiday party.

When it comes to throwing a fabulous party, according to my grandmother, it doesn’t matter if your house is clean, guests are civil, or your kitchen is overflowing with homemade goodness. No, the secret ingredient for a successful holiday soiree, she says, lies in the chocolate. Rich, luscious, irresistible chocolate.
