The word alone comes from al one, literally “all one.” Between a never-ending workday and mile-long list of errands it’s not easy, but the happiest among us are those who allow ourselves “Me” time.

Last weekend, I enjoyed a ton of “Me” time and felt more connected to who I am at my core, my dreams and purpose than I have in a long time.

I realized how important it is to make “Me” time a priority and how it helps us show up as our best selves for others.

We all need time alone. It’s not something to be rewarded after trudging through a rough week.

“Me” time isn’t earned, nor is it a luxury we should feel guilty about – it’s a necessity to recharge and be “all one” with ourselves.

Chances are, you probably already know if you’re in need of “Me” time, but here’s a rundown of the top 10 signs it’s time to make a date with yourself!

10. Be honest: lately you’ve been feeling…predictable. You’re not sad, but you’re not exactly excited about life.

9. Most of your days are spent doing favors for friends out of the goodness of your heart. Yet you can’t remember the last time someone did something for you.

8. “I’m fine with anything!” is your usual answer when someone asks you to choose a wine to drink or movie to watch. Really, you are fine with anything. But then you think, when was the last time I made an actual decision?

7. It’s been awhile since you’ve fulfilled a dream or long-term goal. Or even worse, you can’t remember any dreams or future goals! The future seems so blank.

6. Lately when you look in the mirror, you think something along the lines of: “Blah.”

5. The last time you wrote in a journal was in high school.

4. “I need a drink” is your daily mantra.

3. You check your email every 20 minutes. And Facebook, Twitter… and friends may have commented on how much you glance at your phone.

2. Work, your relationships and life in general seem to be great, but something feels empty, like something inside is telling you. “I need a challenge” or “I need a new adventure.”

1. You can’t remember the last time you had a genuine conversation with someone — about yourself.

It’s impossible to be ‘on’ all the time and we all need to take timeouts to refuel.

Whether it’s a mini-meditation in your car before walking in the door after work, an afternoon sipping lattes at a café, or an entire weekend holed up in your home schedule “Me” time in your weekly calendar as a non-negotiable.

Give yourself permission to slip into a bubble bath, take a long walk in nature, stretch out in a yoga class, or stare into a starry sky.

Just make sure to leave your phone behind.

Be good to you today!
