How are you doing? Before you say, “fine” or “OK,” we want to tell you, it’s alright if you’re not.

It’s a weird and confusing time, and if you’re like us, chances are you don’t feel 100% like yourself these days. On the outside, you might try to carry on like business as usual, especially around family and friends. But on the inside things might feel a little off.

It’s important to try and stay positive by doing things like practicing gratitude during tough times, but it’s equally important to allow yourself to feel all you’re feeling — instead of ignoring or shoving your emotions in a deep, dark corner.

Sometimes, though, it can be hard for us to know exactly what it is we’re feeling — you might have a strange pit in your stomach, but can’t put your finger on what’s causing you to feel off.

You might even have moments, days or weeks of joy or peace (and then some corresponding guilt at being happy during such a chaotic time).

There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to feel right now, but it is important to keep tabs on what you’re going through.

Here’s a list of 10 questions you can ask yourself, to check-in. Take a few minutes to pour yourself a cup of tea, sit down with your journal, and put pen to paper. Chances are, doing so will help you better understand what you’re feeling right now, so you can figure out how to cope in this strange moment.

  • How am I sleeping these days?
  • What’s the first thing I think about in the morning?
  • How do I start and end my day?
  • How am I truly feeling right this very moment?
  • What am I craving in life right now?
  • If I could vent to someone right this second, what would I say?
  • What is worrying me in life?
  • What has the pandemic taught me about myself, my life and others?
  • What’s inspiring me at the moment?
  • What am I excited to do, see, or experience when the world returns to safety?

Once you’ve answered these questions, read them over and pay attention to what stands out. You may be surprised by certain trends you notice and what areas you might need to work on.

For a dose of calm and to feel uplifted, journaling, meditation, a call with your mom or best friend, and positive self-talk can all help.

You may even realize that talking to a professional might be the right call. If that’s the case, consider finding a therapist you can speak to remotely.

While there’s a lot going on in the world right now that can throw you off your emotional game, remember that these emotions are what you feel — they’re not who you are. It’s important to allow yourself to feel all you’re feeling so you’re better equipped to help Y-O-U.

You owe it to yourself to get in touch with yours truly.

Be good to yourself this weekend!

XO

Savvy Pick

All we want to do these days is curl up in bed with a good book (and maybe a glass of wine too!). Nice sheets make curling up even better, which is why we’re big fans of Brooklinen luxe sheet sets. These uber-soft sheets make dealing with staying in a whole lot easier!
