There’s a tendency to want more in life — more time, more money, more friends, bigger, better, whatever …

Who wouldn’t want their dream home, all the time in the world for hobbies and passion projects, and a roster-full of friends just waiting to come over for a glass of wine?

It’s all too common these days though to find yourself in a scarcity mindset, thinking “I just don’t have enough.” Or, “life would be so much better if I just had ‘it,’” whatever “it” may be.

But if you constantly focus on what you don’t have, you put yourself in a state of dissatisfaction — and that can seriously affect your daily happiness and keep you from getting those things you do want (law of attraction and all). Not good.

Even if your home doesn’t look like a Fixer Upper model home and your friends may seem less like the Sex and the City cast than you’d like, if you stop and look around, you’ll find a whole lot to appreciate in your life.

Since this is the season to be thankful (and because Oprah’s right — when you’re grateful for what you already have you’ll attract more good into your life), your mission this weekend is to carve out some time to put pen to paper and fill a page with all the good you’ve got going on in your life.

Dig deep and write out everything you can think of that you have to smile about.

(Putting pen to paper is more powerful than creating a list in your head or typing, so be sure to write them down.)

Take it a step further and when you’ve filled the page, go over your gratitude list and allow yourself to feel in your body how truly thankful you are for each and every thing. If you’d like, place your hands over your heart, gently close your eyes and breathe in and out acknowledging how appreciative you are.

No matter your mood when you started, you’ll feel happier and more peaceful! And maybe your holiday wish list for December might not need to be so long after all.

Show your loved ones that you’re thankful for them by texting a happy picture of the two of you together, with a “thinking of you” message. Just going through the photo reel on your phone and looking back on all those warm and fuzzy memories will put a smile on your face — and your friend will appreciate the sweet gesture, too.
