Over the past year, most of us have had some extra time for self-reflection (especially if you’ve had to spend weeks in quarantine!).

A lack of birthday parties and wine nights with friends may have left you with more moments to sit down with a cup of tea or coffee, and think about what it is that’s truly calling you in life.

On the one hand, all the extra time can be a good thing — it allows you to narrow down your passions and hone in on what really brings you joy and meaning.

On the other hand, it can cause a lot of stress, especially if you feel like you’re nowhere near your purpose or still don’t know exactly what you’re striving toward.

Before this pandemic, it may not have bothered you — but now, with so much going on in the world (and wanting to make it a better place!), a lack of purpose may make you feel directionless.

So today (or Saturday or Sunday), why not take an hour or two to really think about what you want to get out of life? It’s a big question, but one that, if answered, can have an even bigger impact on every career step you take and meeting you make.

Start by grabbing a notebook or journal (we love these gorgeous ones from the Balanced Life Planner!).

Then answer the following questions:

  1. What is it that gets you excited about life (like helping others, solving problems, connecting people)?
  2. What is it that’s holding you back from following your purpose?
  3. If you could be in a dream career or dream place in your life in 5 years, what would you be doing?
  4. What steps can you take now, to allow you to move closer to your purpose?
  5. How do you plan to brush off uncertainty and other obstacles that may come between you and your purpose?

While finding your purpose — and taking steps toward living a purpose-focused life — may seem daunting, it’s worth spending time now to think about it. (Trust us, in 5 years, when you’re living out your passions, you’ll be glad you did!). Keep checking in with your purpose often, and you might find you’re closer to it than you even think.

And don’t worry: Sometimes in life, your purpose may shift or adjust, and that’s OK, too. When you follow what sparks fire in your soul, you’ll feel more fulfilled and happy, and isn’t that the point of being on this earth?

Wishing you a purpose-filled weekend!

XO,
The Savvy Team
